How to Install the Windows XP Built In Fax Service

With only a simple set up, you can install a fax machine program on Windows XP, letting you use your computer as a fax machine. The fax software is already paid for ? there?s nothing extra to purchase to make your computer into a fax. It?s incredible to think that kind of functionality has been built into the Windows XP operating system.

Change your options over to faxing from your computer. It deserves serious consideration as it will let you manage your business easier. You can then just use your printer or scanner to transmit documents. It?s a great way to save space on the desk, and reduce the amount of technology you have around the office.

Fax machines can be problematic because they have a tendency to jam or run out of paper and toner. It?s so easy to have one small hiccup and lose all your transmissions. First a paper jam happens. Next, you find that you have to unplug the machine and you?ve just lost all the faxes from memory. Having a computer manage the faxes that you send an receive can make it much easier for the office, as well as making it more cost effective.

This will start the fax console configuration wizard. When it start up, enter the information as requested. Then choose which modem to use, and then whether you want your computer to have the ability to receive faxes, send faxes, or do both.

There are options for TSID and CSID. TSID is the information that appears on the header of any faxes that you send. CSID is the information that gets displayed on the fax machine that is sending. Usually, this information is the business name and fax number, and helps with confirmation pages and proving that your fax was in fact sent.

Another option to configure is whether you want the fax machine to automatically or manually answer the phone line. Automatically answering will mean that when the phone line rings, the fax will automatically answer the phone and try to receive a fax. Manually means that when the phone line rings, you will have to be at your computer and press a button in order for the fax part of the Windows XP fax to pick up and answers the line.

Done! Now you can send and/or receive faxes! If you want to of course. You can manage your Faxes by clicking ?Start?, Accessories?, ?Communications?, ?Fax?.
